Just received this message. Sharing it with deep sadness and heavy heart.
Dear All,
Dear All,
I am writing to inform you with deep regrets that GD.Agarwal is now no more. His fast unto death to save the ganges lasted more than 8 weeks and he chose to give up water a couple of days ago and he passed away a few minutes back in Haridwar. His contributions to India's environmental planning and design remains unparalled till date in the country, he was CPCB's first member secretary and a passionate engineer who inspired scores of students while at IIT-Kanpur. Many of those who were mentored by him went on to do path-breaking work in the field of environmental planning and engineering. Some of them also include Prof.Mukesh Sharma, Dunu Roy and Ravi Chopra. Remaining a Gandhian , he'd spent most of his life in the Jungles of Sonbadhra, Uttar Pradesh with a hope to fight industrial pollution in the region. He's been a pillar of support for communities and individuals working on issues of environmental justice. I have had the good fortune to learn and interact with him in the last few years and I do hope you all take a few minutes of your time and read about him. Here are a couple of links -
His words and work will continue to inspire many of us who have known him.
